Scoop coaters are used to uniformly apply emulsion to the surface of a screen.  They are also known as an emulsion applicator, emulsion coater, spreader or coating trough.
 
If you don't use a scoop coater when doing your own exposures, the emulsion can be too thick and will not dry easily. Your application can end up uneven so parts will be exposed and others will be underexposed. A scoop coater is therefore a screen printing essential for those print makers who expose their own screens using emulsion.
